Diabetics at Pizza Hut
Pizza is neither a great meal nor the worst for diabetes. All you need is some fact check and monitoring while ordering your pizza. Diabetics can opt for thin crust or skinny pizza at Pizza Hut and avoid the cheese topping to cut down on the excess fat and sodium. If you have diabetes, then ensure to check your portion size when you order a pizza. One or max. two slices are enough. You can also avoid meat if possible and go for wings as a meat option.
Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for Diabetics:
You must avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust as it contains over 1000mg sodium and will add 470 calories in your meal. You should also skip Super Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice which is too high in sodium and fat. Chicken wings are often tempting but you must control and restrict yourself from ordering Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings as it can add up to your sugar levels if you eat too many. On average, a person orders or consumes six chicken wings pieces in a day.
Sides must be avoided at all costs especially if it's Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup for its high sodium content. You must also avoid New York Style Cheesecake with Applesauce as dessert as one slice of this dessert item contains 86g sugar. Pizza Hut also offers other Italian dishes such as Pasta. However, you must skip Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meatballs and Garlic Bread as it is too high in sodium and sugar.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. How to find authentic Chicago deep dish pie? Go to White Bread Lake?? Yes, the pizza in the northern burbs ( which I know, some city folk think it may as well be in Canada) has come to a peak. The deep dish has been the only thing I ever have had here. Because if it's not broken? Why fix it. Gino's east? You might be IN chi-town but I will take this pie at pezzo over yours. Start with the wings. Only one flavor but to die for. The kind of wings that make you realize that a good wing can be flavorful, they don't have to burn your pubes off.

We had the homemade fennel pepperoni (#3 on the menu). It was fantastic! Started with caprese salad -- balsamic was fanrastic

You come for these things: cipolinni, deep dish, and tiramisu. You leave having experienced the best ever.

My wife, almost 2 year old son and I ate here for the first time tonight and were thoroughly happy with our choice. I don't write many Yelp reviews but after eating here I'm happy to have a place like this close to home and really want it to stick around! I thought the decor was very nice for a pizza joint. We got a table immediately (5:30 on a Wednesday night) and found the service to be very attentive and friendly. The waitress brought our son a small ball of pizza dough with flour in a little plastic dish so he'd have something to pass the time. I thought that was a nice touch, and I saw they did the same for other small kids. The beer list looked great, including several local favorites. Despite that, my wife and I ordered water this time, and the waitress immediately brought two glasses and an additional carafe of water - another nice touch. As for the food, we ordered a salad, a thin crust pizza (pepperoni and artichoke) and a deep dish pizza (pepperoni and fennel sausage). Needless to say we had a lot left over but we wanted to try more than 1 thing. I was very impressed with all of the food. I actually liked the thin crust best, which isn't to say the deep dish wasn't great too. We've eaten at Black Sheep several times and love it but and I would rate Pezzo's thin crust above them for sure. In short, great food, great service, nice atmosphere, and some nice little extra touches. Can't wait to go back - and next time I'm having a beer!

The food was great...amazing even! Loved it! Worst waitress ever though. Our table went unattended for more than 20 minutes and we couldn't seem to flag her down. We finally got a busboy to help us and she stopped by a few minutes later to bring the items she had promised 30 minutes earlier. No apology. The place was fairly empty and she knew it was our first time but didn't care about the impression she gave. Too bad! Would have loved to have rated them higher. The waitress that was helping the table across the way ended up bringing our food to us. She was great. I watched her attend to her tables; filling their drinks, checking in, bringing boxes, etc. Our server never got better. Empty beverage glasses, waiting for a box, waiting forever for a bill. My husband finally just went to the car while I sat there....waiting. She never asked how things were. The closest we got was that we were lucky because they hadn't run out of crust today. If you eat here, you will enjoy the food. It is fabulous. The deep dish pizza is not Lou Malnotti's but it is great. (The crust is a little different). They are closed Monday's and since we have now heard that running out of crust is an option, I guess I would call before arriving. The folks at the hostess station are warm and inviting. The place is squeaky clean. Although I doubt I will go back, I hope you do go and have a 5 star experience. We need a few more great deep dish places in MN so I would like to see them be successful.

Food is some of the best gourmet pizza as well as some great appetizers and an amazing turkey sandwich. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable. My only complaint is they don't start showing wait times on the "NoWait" app they use until there is a half hour wait. We showed up expecting to be seated right away and had to wait 20 minutes.

As a frequent Chicago pizza visiting citizen, Pizzeria Pezzo has been on my radar since opening. Honestly I had never heard of Pezzo but was well acquainted with the others so I was anxious to give this transplant a shot. We arrived on a Friday evening. It was a brief wait for the two of us which was happily answered by a beer at the bar. Nice selection of taps and wines. They send a text when your table is ready which I like. Didn't even get halfway through my beer. We were seated at a table. Booths line the rectangular perimeter with tables in the middle. Good lighting levels. Good noise levels. Good space between tables. I notice that kind of stuff more and more. Ordered the Sicilian salad that they recommend for two. It could have fed six. It was very good and very big. Great dressing. Decided to build our own deep dish rather than the offerings they had. Went with sausage, oyster mushrooms and pepperoncinis. First impressions of the pizza: Would have liked the crust to be a little more cooked and carmelized - however it was pretty tasty. Lots of sauce and I'm a sauce guy so no complaints, sauce tastes great. Great sausage, highly recommended. Good cheese ratio going on as well. Bottom line, damn good. We ate most of the salad - and one piece of pizza each - and we were stuffed. They have great to-go containers and I'm looking forward to leftovers.

WOW! Went with friends who had been there before and was thoroughly impressed. How good can pizza get? Go and find out. The flavors of everything we ordered were enhanced by the freshness of the food prepared. I ordered the Italian salad (huge and should be shared with 3-4 people), my husband ordered the turkey sandwich which was also huge, but he ate the entire thing to the point of being uncomfortable because he said it was the best he's every had. Our friends ordered a meat combo pizza that they shared with us and peppers and Italian sausage - again all outstanding. Am already making plans for a repeat visit. Our waiter was very attentive and knew his stuff. All around a really good experience.

Man what a great place! They do one thing and they do it well: pizza. They have two types of pizza: deep-dish and a regular coal fired crust. Their thing is that they make everything in house and from scratch. They make their own sausages! The pizzas were super fresh because of this and a were definitely in a league of their own. Even the pepperoni was different and flavorful. The lemon chicken wings were fantastic. Definitely start with those! Instead of coloring books they gave the kids a plate of pizza dough to play with. They were distracted the whole time! The only thing that sucks was that they open at 4pm everyday so plan accordingly. In my opinion both pizzas were top notch but my favorite was the deep dish. It was better that UNOS in Chicago for sure. We pared it with a nice Cab-The Blended Red Temptation, wine was excellent!
(5)Daniel F.
Hands down the best deep dish outside of Chicago. I've been waiting patiently for a place like this in the twin cities for years. Have the Lincoln Park (sub sausage for mushrooms) and the Mediterranean salad and you can't go wrong.
(5)Chelsea B.
Tip: If you want a side salad with your meal, order the Nonni's Meatballs appetizer. It is about the price of the salads on the menu, and it comes with a great salad (that is more than big enough for 2-3 people to have as a side salad) and bread. The other salads on their menu are meant for 2 or more people as an entree, so I have found it to be far too much food if you're getting pizza too (and you should always, always get pizza too). Not to mention, the meatballs and sauce are wooonderful - flavorful, juicy, tender but firm, sauce is perfectly balanced, garlicky, mmmmm, etc. - but, if you'd rather fill up on pizza and salad and other awesome apps (artichoke dip is ta diee fer), here's a super-expert pro tip: Save them with the sauce to have over pasta the next day (amazing easy dinner for 2 with a salad and bread). ;o) Others have already said it, but I'll say it too: this is the best deep dish I've ever had outside of Chicago. The sauce, house-made sausage, the crust, everything is on point! I also love the coal fired pizza (read: chewy, deliciously-charred crust) , especially the one with white sauce, sausage, caramelized onions, cream, and garlic. Yum!! It is a bummer that they don't take reservations because, at least when I was there, it was very busy (a few people, including my SO and I, were even waiting outside the door before opening) and tables filled up quickly and with deep dish pizzas taking 45 minutes to cook, tables don't turn over all that quickly. Anyways, get there close to open or past the dinner rush and you should be fine. Ample parking in adjacent lot. You can also order carry-out. We have done it a few times and everything is always packaged nicely and travels well, the service is always friendly and relatively fast, even when they're really busy. Check it out!

We have not eaten in yet, but the pizza that I brought home was really good. We had the Wrigley, (Chicago style deep dish) and it was really good. Can't wait to try the pizza and beer-wine selection.
(5)Parker P.
We eat in the Wauconda, IL location on regular basis. The food there is always terrific, and the servers friendly and informative. The pizza there is always outstanding, along with the salads, meatballs etc....especially the veal sauce that comes with the meatballs. The wings are definitely on the best we have ever had. BUT, to the owners, or executive chef, you need incorporate some of your dishes to the Wauconda location. How hard would it to be to add a meatball sandwich or a pasta with that lovely veal sauce. Another suggestion is, to improve your blu cheese dressing....it's like water with very little if any cheese in it. Thanx for listening, and if your would like to reply to me, please feel free at drterry@gmail.com .

I've been here a few times now so I figured a review was due. I lived the artichoke sip, which was absolutely great compared to your typical dip at every other place. Salads are huge so shareable. Tried am the deep dish, I'm not a deep dish lover it was very good and filling. The serving size they suggest in the menu isn't accurate. Serves two is more like serves four. The regular thin crusted pizzas are my favorite. This place gets pack and isn't taking reservations. My advice is go early like when they open.
(4)Linda M.
Went there on a weeknight and got seated right away - the place was pretty empty, but it was early. Started with the stuffed mushrooms - the mushrooms were pretty greasy, to be honest, and didn't have a lot of flavor. The bed of greens they were served on and the sauce that was drizzled on were pretty good, though. We had the feta, artichoke, pepper, etc pizza on coal fired crust. It was good! The service was excellent - lots of staff on hand. Drinks were kept full for all of us. The waitress really took the time to explain the restaurant and the menu (unprompted - she asked if it was our first time there and we said yes). Chatted with the manager working that night, and he was really friendly and nice. Good beer selection - local choices are on there, too. They have a party room available to rent, and are good with kids - they give kids a ball of pizza dough and a plate to play with until the food comes to the table. Kind of weird (and very messy - would be nice if they gave a wet towel or something to clean the kids up), but different enough that they're entertained. I hope they stick around! Next time I'm going to order the deep dish pizza in advance and try that out - I'm from Chicago, and skeptical Chicago style can be made well this far north ;)
(4)Dajon F.
I'd love to try it, but they're either not open or dine in only. Hope I get a chance to try at least once before they go out of business. I have other favorites in WBL for a reason! UPDATE: It was definitely worth the wait. Fresh ingredients, delicious menu and great service!
(5)Sally M.
We will travel for pizza and this place was worth the drive! The deep dish rivals any Chicago restaurant, and their salads were excellent. They won over my kids with raw dough to play with, and our server kept us in refills... The only thing I wish they had was a simple kids pizza.... Otherwise, awesome!
(5)Randy T.
So let's be clear, my wife is from the east coast, and she is a pizza snob... Finding pizza to meet her standards is nearly impossible! Today, however, the thin crust pizza here did the trick. The pizza was fantastic... Just the right amount of cheese, sauce and toppings, all served up in a great atmosphere. I recommend starting with a salad, they too, do not disappoint!
(5)Scott N.
Food is great! Service and Manager need work. Last night was our 8th visit since they opened. Love the pizza - definitely a treat in WBL. What's new... We learned that you can no longer call on the way and get your deep dish pizza started. That's unfortunate as they take quite a bit of time. My discussion with the manager on the phone didn't make total sense but that's what the rules are. Bottom line they are concerned about having a table for you when your pizza is ready. Does that mean they don't have a good handle on the kitchen yet - who knows? We rushed down to the restaurant and were seated immediately after phone staff told us they were almost full in the dining room. Arriving 10 minutes after the call we found half the dining room was open for seating and that didn't count the back room that was empty and closed to seating for good reason. We placed an order for two deep dish pizzas and our drinks came shortly after. The rest of our party arrived 10 minutes later, ordered drinks and a salad for the table. We expressed to our waiter that we wanted the salad before the pizza. We were assured it would come properly timed out. As you might guess - the pizza showed up first and the salad came right after. This is after being told twice that the our salad would be right up. Frustrating. I think the manager has lost his grip on the restaurant. It's clear that Pizzeria Pezzo isn't nearly as busy as it used to be and it's sad. With Kowalski's involvement, this place should be on the ball and one of our best experiences within White Bear Lake - but it has become like many others. Good food with spotty service and an average experience. Bottom line - definitely go for the food but be tolerant of the average to mediocre overall experience.

I've been here a bunch of times since it opened and have always had a great experience with the food and service. The coal-fired crust is amazing and I can't give enough stars to the #13 (fig, balsamic, and prosciutto) pizza. It's bonkers delicious. The salads are tasty and HUGE. My favorite is the Fields of Bleu, although I think that the kitchen should punt the tomatoes and replace with strawberries in the summer and craisins in the winter.

I love pizza. I love all types of pizza. When I can find a deep dish pizza outside of Chicago I'm really excited. Almost giddy. Sure, there are a lot of deep dish pizzas here in Minnesota, but 95% of them can be dismissed as forgeries, bad forgeries (I'm looking at you Tommy Chicago's). This deep dish is the best I've found in the Twin Cities. Obviously it doesn't stand up to its true Chicago brethren, but I've yet to convince Lou Malnati to deliver to Minnesota. The crust is spot on. Rather thin and hugging the pan as it takes a 90 degree turn up to catch that golden brown goodness. Not bready or doughy. Snappy, chunky sauce on top. Heavy cheese. All flavors really meld nicely. The roasted red pepper and artichoke app is fantastic. Comes out bubbly and slightly blackened from the wood burning oven. Wait times for a table can be long but the bar is a great place to have a drink and wait it out. Nice tap beer selection. Service has always been very good overall. This is a definite spot to check out for all you deep dish lovers. Others at the table raved about the thin crust and it sure looked fantastic to me. Give Pezzo a try.

I'm sad I'm updating this because I need to take away a star. I would have easily went down to a two rating, over an hour wait on one pizza is completely ridiculous. However, our server, Kelsey, was so awesome she saved the experience from being a total disaster. It's Thursday and it's been a long day. I was super hungry and I just wanted some good pizza and a cold beer. I've been wanting to get back to this place to try their coal fired pizza so off we went. My boyfriend and I arrived at about 645pm. We were told it would be a 10 minute wait for the dining room. No problem, I gave the hostess my phone number and headed to the bar. $3 Summit winter ale special, things were starting off pretty good. I got my beer fix quickly. Not long into my ice cold beer I get a text that our table was ready. When we were seated our server came by to introduce herself and she remembered us from our first visit a few months ago! That was cool. It doesn't feel like you're just a number when people remember you. I was reviewing the menu, thinking secretly to myself that I wanted the Baked Cipollini and Whipped Cheese. My boyfriend was thinking about a Bianca pizza so I wasn't sure he'd go for this cheesy dip too. When Kelsey returned with waters I asked for her opinion on the small plates and she immediately raved about the Cipollini, she said it was like Christmas morning. The last time we were here we went with her suggestions and loved it, so the Cipollini was now an easy sell. We put our order in quickly on that. We probably took a bit longer on the pizza selection and when Kelsey noticed this she told us that we could do half and half on the pies. Perfect, we went with the Margherita (#4) on one half, and the roasted red pepper, eggplant, and goat cheese (#6) on the other. Add sausage on the whole pie because I love meat. The pizza order went in at about 7:13pm. Yes, I'm a clock watcher, but only when I'm really, really hungry. I'm like that snickers commercial, "you're not yourself when you're hungry." Call me Medusa. The Cipollini came, OH MY GOD. It was hot, creamy, onion dippy, I think with a balsamic reduction, and with warm toasted bread. Soooo good. Here's when the problem starts. The entire dinning area was full with a large party in a room in the back. No one around us were getting their pizzas. I overheard the table next to us complain to their server. Kelsey came by several times to apologize herself before we got to the point of complaining. Our pizza came at 8:22pm. I actually let out a wooohooo. But over an hour on one pizza? Come on! More than half of the diners cleared out by the time we got our pizza. In the time we had been there I could have ordered a pizza at home, had it delivered, and finished eating. And maybe do that whole thing twice. I get that they're busy and the kitchen was backed up, but this is just unacceptable. Even more disappointing was that in my over an hour wait, I didn't even get a well put together pizza pie! I had one tiny piece of sausage on my first slice, then my second, so I looked closer and there was barely any on the pizza. They just sort of tossed a couple small nuggets on there. Not worth the charge for the addition. The basil was distributed unevenly, there was a clump on one corner then no where else. The other half, #6, was bland. The only thing I could taste was the goat cheese, nothing was seasoned. The crust was great, loved the coal flavor, but I would be fine not ordering these coal fired pizzas again. The deep dish pizzas are where it's at here. However, they warn you these take a little longer. After this experience, I'm afraid if I came back and it's busy again, it'll be two hours for a deep dish. After all this, I had visa gift cards to use, their machines don't except them. Geez. Even though everyone here is so friendly, I don't know how I feel about coming back, which is sad since I thought I found the perfect pizza spot in White Bear Lake. It's definitely not our servers fault, but I can't be waiting this long, and getting a sad pizza that was clearly made with no love.

Fantastic meal. Mouth watering stuffed mushrooms, perfectly dressed Sicilian salad, excellent coal-fired pizza. I am not a fan of deep dish, but rest of table was enthralled. Great beer selection and fantastic service.

I was missing the food that Chicago has to offer (aka deep dish pizza), and my friend suggested this place. I was bit hesitant because most places outside of the windy city never get it right. But, I was wrong. First, come early because there will be a wait. Second, if you have to wait for a table, you can order your pizza first considering it takes about 30 -45 minutes to get it done. Third, do get the deep dish pizza. Pros: - Service was awesome. Ours was a bit eager and overly enthusiastic but we found him quite witty when he nervously cut and served our slices. - Focaccia bread with olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette is amazing. Brownie points from this carb addict. - Deep dish pizza is a must! I find this fairly different from Giordano's, but comparable in overall tastiness/nom-ness. I like the actual pizza crust is more seasoned and sturdy so that it held the oozy cheese and toppings, whereas, Giordano's was a bit soggy for me the last time I went. However, I also find the sauce and cheese at Giordano's a bit more seasoned than Pizzeria Pezzo's. Overall, they cancel out and both won over my tastebuds. Cons: - The wait was confusing as they told us different wait times each time we went and asked them. - Their handle for their deep dish was a bit flimsy and I was in constant anxiety that the rest of the pizza (aka my next slice) will drop on the floor when others were trying to pass the dish around. I will definitely come back when I need my next cheese fix.

I really dig this place! I actually tried to hit up this place a few months back, but didn't check the site first and they are not open on Mondays. Headed back on a Wednesday night and it was perfect. It was actually half price wine night, so that makes it even better. I like the setup and ambiance of this joint. It's roomy and very comfortable. We were seated not far from the kitchen and it wasn't even hot, so that's a plus in my book. The menu has a bunch of great looking apps, sandwiches and pizzas. We decided to split the Italian Table Salad and the #2 pizza - meatball, ricotta and garlic. The salad came first and when they say it serves 2 or more they mean it. We each had 3 plates full and there were still leftovers. It was a great mix of romaine, tomato, cucumbers, roasted red pepper, olives, pepperoncini, prosciutto, pepperoni, mozzarella, with a great vinaigrette. I'm not a huge fan of pepperoni, but I could pick around what I didn't like. Bonus - chilled plates and forks with the salad! The pizza came after we had the salad quite a while. The timing for me was good, except I ate so much salad I wasn't super hungry. That didn't stop me from eating pizza though. The garlic taste really came through, which I appreciated. There were not a ton of meatballs and they weren't huge, so I also enjoyed that. It had a good sauce to crust ratio also. Our food and half price wine was around $42 before tip. Good service, good food, great company and half price bottles of wine are right up my alley. Next time I'm getting the goat cheese app and a sandwich, they both sound great.

We ate a pezzo last night and walked right in, no wait. We brought our twin 2 year olds, which can be an adventure. They don't have any kids menus so nothing to draw on, but they did bring each of them a big ball of pizza dough to play with which was really nice. The food was delicious. We had the stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer. I do not like mushrooms, I loved these, great flavor and very savory. We also shared the Sicilian salad, again delicious. My wife is now searching the internet to try to make her won. Finally, the pizza. We had the #1 (plain cheese) and the #5 (lots of meat). It was very good. Good crust, good topings, sauce was okay but didn't really stand out at all. I would definately get the pizza again, but I can't wait to try more appetizers or a different salad, those were the stars for us. They also had an interesting beer list and my wife had what she described as an excellent Bloody Mary. Our service was great, attentive without being overbearing. This place is a great addition to White Bear Lake and a new regualr place we will take family and friends from out of town. Can't wait to go back.

The pizza deep dish was 5 stars .the chicken wings have a lot of flavor but I like my wing skin crispy

Food is great, but pricey. Kids can play with pizza dough while waiting for their food. On the weekends, you will wait.

Had deep dish and assorted regular coal fired. The deep dish was top of the line. It is as good if not better than Lou Malnati's and Gino's East in Chicago. Really well done.

If I had never heard of black sheep, I would rave about this place. Since I have, I will just be very enthusiastic. We had an appetizer of Red Sauce with Goat Cheese and a tasty dipping bread. I really like the taste. The employees here are upbeat. When I inquired about cooking time on a deep dish they told me 45 minutes and said that would be no problem. As it was a half hour til close and I'm not "that guy" I opted for a thin crust instead. We got a simple pizza with pepperoni and fennel sausage (I must be a fennel sausage addict). All very good tasting and delivered to our table within moments of leaving the oven. They had a decent beer list. Surly Furious and pizza proved a good combo. I will definitely return to try the deep dish because this place is both nearby and delicious.

This place has incredible pizza and friendly, attentive management that goes above and beyond. I stopped in on a Monday evening with my father and a few friends on his recommendation. As a pizza snob (New Yorker last 5 years) I had my doubts the place could deliver more than the typical tasty pizza. Pezzo proved me wrong. Their fennel sausage deep dish pizza was extraordinary, the sausage some of the tastiest I've had and the crust a perfectly crispy bottom underneath the mound of toppings. It wasn't soggy like many other deep dishes tend to be. Even the salad was great, I believe it was the Sicilian. The manager, Mike, even sent our table a meat lover type coal oven pizza, it was also top notch with crispy crust and a healthy topping of quality meats. I highly recommend this place and suggest you try the fennel sausage!

I drive from Cleveland for this pizza twice each week. Great chicken wings too. Someday they'll open one of these in Ohio. I'm going to miss the White Bearians, but that drive in the winter is brutal. If you're within 600 miles of the place, I suggest you swing in. Decent beer selection. Oh, and there aren't any dead animals mounted on the wall. Rare in this tundra. These locals are a people that appreciate the art of taxidermy while they eat. Make sure your dog scrooches down. Just in case.
(4)Allen K.
This is by far the best wood-fired pizza I've ever had! It's a tad expensive, but definitely worth your time. It only took about 8 minutes to cook and the staff was amazing about getting it out to us. Their farmer's market salad was top notch as well. I highly recommend this place to all pizza lovers.
(5)Tou Y.
The deep dish pizza is extremely saucy. I've been to Chicago and Pezzo's deep dish pizza is nothing like Lou Malnati's or Gino's. You can't even cut a slice without a river of sauce spilling all over the pan. Is a deep dish pizza supposed to be sauce soup? The sauce was tasty, but in a deep dish I was looking for generous portions of cheese. We ordered the Roasted Pepper and Artichoke dip that was delicious! However there were only a few pieces of bread along with it, and when we asked for more bread it took about 15 minutes!
(3)Nic B.
Great new spot in WBL. The space is semi awkward so we opted for the bar. Hard floors and a hall like feel it gets loud. We had the fig pizza! Crust was crisp, the flavor was fantastic. I could have had a second helping. At the bar we had good service, they seemed to be cutting down to one bartender and though he was checking out the other bartender he did a good job of keeping us refilled.
(5)Andrew T.
When Pezzo opened I peeked at their menu online and it looked like a winner. I showed up a few weeks after they opened, and for starters, was impressed with the nice new design of the place. I decided to wait the 40+ minutes for a deep dish pizza. Got the one with extra cheese and extra sausage. When it arrived I sunk my teeth in and discovered it was not piping hot like I prefer my food. Also, "extra cheese" was still a little light on the cheese, so I can't imagine how little cheese is on the regular, but to their credit it tasted fresh and homemade. The fennel sausage was my choice of meat to try, and I wish to try the other selections, but this stuff was just average sausage and the chunks were few and far between. The crust however was very good. The sauce could use a little more spice. I will be back sometime considering they had just opened when I went.

I should admit that this was my third attempt to eat here. After trying to eat here for lunch and for dinner on a Monday and finding that it was closed both times, I do wish they had more hours. But that's their business model, and I'm not going to complain about that. The food was the kind of good that makes you want to keep eating even after you're full. The tomato "gravy" is what most people call tomato sauce, but I would call it delicious. We ordered the meatball app and were glad we did. It came with a large salad and pretty hearty half-loaf of focaccia - along with some of that terrific tomato gravy. We also ordered their basic margherita pizza and a white pizza with prosciutto and arugula. They were both terrific and a little bigger than I expected, which is nice for a big appetite guy like me. Our server was friendly and professional and knew the food well. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming but still a little bit hip. I didn't order any beer or wine, but there are at least two beers on tap that I'm already looking forward to trying next out. The whole experience was a positive, but it was the food that earned my 5 stars.

Another excellent addition to the restaurant scene in White Bear Lake. Pizza that rivals that of Black Sheep and Pizza Nea in Minneapolis - without the drive. Perfectly chewy/crispy crust and a great balance of toppings. The sausage is amazing - house made - and the fresh mozzarella is not too wet that it makes the pizza soggy (like at Punch). Their salads are HUGE and very, very good. Also, if you bring your kids, they give them their very own pizza dough ball to keep them busy before the food comes. Highly recommended.

Fabulous wings and pizza!

Current thoughts on Pizzeria Pezzo. 1. Their Neapolitan thin crust style pizzas are not great. The crust is cardboardy and in my experience it was overdone. I don't know what coal they are using to fire the pizzas, but it doesn't seem to do the pizza any favor. I prefer the pizza's I make at home on the grill. I assume the goal of any restaurant should be to make something better than I can make at home. 2. Their deep dish Chicago style pizza is also not great. I love deep dish pizzas. We tried their deep dish last night and I thought the crust was pretty good, but not the best that I have had. The sauce, on the other, was quite lousy. I'm having a hard time pinpointing exactly what I didn't like about it, there was sweetness to it that I found off-putting, but for the most part it just seemed off. In the end I didn't even want to finish eating my piece. Now for some caddy remarks... Their website and promotional material claim 'Top 8 Pizzas in the Nation' and 'The Best Coal Oven Pizza in Chicagoland'. I find both of the claims to be completely disingenuous; you will not find Pizzeria Pezzo on any best pizza lists for Chicagoland or the Nation. It just opened in December. The claims are based on other restaurants owned by Gary Bougie who runs Pizzeria Pezzo. I recognize it might be the same pizza recipe, but that doesn't mean you are getting the same pizza. I can't imagine anyone putting the pizzas I've had a Pizzeria Pezzo on a best of list. If you want a good/great Neapolitan pizza in White Bear, just go across the street to Olives Fresh Pizza Bar, we've been there twice and have been super satisfied both times. If you want a good/great deep dish in White Bear, just go to Leonardo's Pizzeria on Century next to Jethros Char House. That is our go-to deep dish pizza, it's great.

We've tried dining here twice before, but didn't want to wait 40 minutes for a table. This time, we scored a high-top table for 2 as soon as we arrived. I'm not a fan of having my feet dangle, so I'd prefer a chair with a foot rail. Beyond that, the service was good (not great). Jess, our server, was helpful when it came to my husband's beer choices - she kept bringing him samples until he found one he liked. But I had to ask her twice for water and she took our appetizer plates away promising clean ones for our pizza, but didn't deliver. We had sausage and peppers for a starter - what a treat! They make their sausage daily; grilled peppers and onions were terrific. When we saw our table-neighbors' salad, we knew we had to get one to share; it's huge! The dressing (lemon basil and balsamic) on their Sicilian salad was fabulous, and Jess suggested we have it on the side. Good recommendation, since we brought the rest home with a small container of dressing. The tomato basil pizza was unremarkable, though. I guess I was expecting something along the lines of Punch, and was sorely disappointed, but then I'm not a huge pizza fan. No matter - I'll be back for those sausages and salad. Good going, White Bear Lake. Let's try to keep this one in the neighborhood.

This is hands down the best Pizza place in the area! Ok, so they've only been open for 3 days, but if they continue to meet the standard they set for my wife and I tonight it will become official. The atmosphere is a huge upgrade from the previous two restaurants in this location. They've completely redone everything. It has a warm modern feel inside, comfortable booths, nice bar area and an open kitchen. The moment we walked it was comfortable. The service was great. They are obviously still figuring a few things out but everybody was super friendly and service was prompt despite being somewhat busy. Our deep dish pizza did take a while, but they very fairly warned us in advance that this would be the case. When we went to leave the general manager (Michael) greeted us and wanted to make sure that everything was good, which it was. I was very impressed with their bar menu. They have a fantastic microbrew selection. They also have a fair selection of wine by the glass. The food was great. We shared an appetizer, salad and a Chicago style pizza. All of which were fantastic. The spinach and artichoke dip was unique from any spinach and artichoke dip that I've ever had before. They put goat cheese in it which we loved. It was served with an nice pile of warm bread. The salad was a very fresh blend of eclectic flavors. There was easily enough for 4 of us on the plate. Two people could have split it for a meal. Finally, the pizza. It was Awesome! The ingredients were fresh and well portioned. The mozzarella may have been home made(?). The most impressive part of the whole pie though... the crust! It was perfectly cooked, golden brown, crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside. I'm already fantasizing about eating the leftovers. Overall this place was 5 stars through and through!

Went there on Thursday had the red pepper artichoke dip, so good you could lick the pan it came in. Then came our gold coast deep dish pizza. It does take at least 45 minutes but we enjoyed our wine and dip. This is the best pizza I have ever had in my life. The crust is to die for. Also I thought it wss nice when the owner/chef brought it to us and asked how we liked the place. I can't wait to try everything on the menu.
(5)Russ L.
The establishment is large, new, and noisy. The house salad is enormous, more than enough for 3 people. We had the thin crust with the pancetta and egg on top. It was delicious. The texture and flavor of the crust was superb from the coal oven. Was curious to try the wings, but not $11 curious. Pro Tip: Get reservations and a table near the viewable kitchen.
(4)Matt M.
Really good spot. Many have highlighted the deep dish but the thin crust wood fired is fantastic. The salads truly feed 2-3 people and the pizzas feed 2 so be prepared to share and enjoy......also great bar--- great beer and wine selection.
(4)Michael V.
Food wonderful and good service. Rhett and Jake are the best. Highly recommend the sausage and peppers appetizer and the deep dish pizza! Craft beer selection was top notch.
(4)Sam G.
I'm going to give Pezzo a 4 but I'm going to say that it is barely a 4. My previous review mentioned that I'd like to try to deep dish. Well, I did indeed try it, and it was fantastic. The crust on the deep dish is dense but crumbly. The cheese is generous and spills all over after the first slice is served. The sauce is delicious and not absurdly chunky like the Green Mill. It was a very different experience than getting the "thin" crust. There are some negatives here, though: 1. They don't give you the right quantity of toppings. We ordered mushroom, onion, and roasted red pepper, and all three were hard to find on the pizza. Oddly enough, we ordered a salad and it looked like it had an entire red onion in it. 2. The crust is a little bit too hard. I hate to complain about this because I liked the crust in general. But it is a little bit too hard. That's about it, though. The one thing that I experienced on my second trip but not the first was excellent service. Everybody was friendly and attentive, but just the right amount of attentive where they didn't crowd you. And a guy from the kitchen, presumably the head of the kitchen, talked to us about the pizza and it was obvious that he really believed in his product. That's always nice. They're getting better. I need to try the meatball appetizer and I've yet to get something with sausage on it. So I vow to do this next time.
(4)Kelsey D.
Long wait times to be seated, regular thin crusts were OK. Their sauce is pretty runny but had a decent flavour, and reasonably priced at about $11-15. Tried a deep dish after reading all the rave reviews about them here, but mine seemed pretty sub-par. Flavourless corn crust, way too much runny sauce and barely any cheese. Not worth $25 by any means. I will say that their salad was excellent, but as their speciality is pizza, I don't know what to think. Beautiful interior, food's not worth it quiet yet. Definitely has potential.
(2)Pam A.
I tried both the brick fired and chicago style and the chicago style is awesome. Maybe not quite as good as Lou Malnati's in Chicago but very close!! The service was pleasant and even though it was a new restaurant, the wait wasn't horrible. Overall, I am happy with the place and will go back.
(4)Bork K.
Came here on a Sunday and had a 20 min wait. Pezzo has an average regular pizza, but I'd say Roma is much better. Regular pizzas are about $12, so not too steep. They feed 2-3 people. The sauce seemed watery and left me wondering when it gets better. We also tried a deep dish and walked out very disappointed. The cheese wasn't generous like other reviews, the crust seems to be cornmeal based and lacked a lot of flavor, and again that sauce. It was as if they forgot to reduce it. At the end of the day, it was a deep cracker crust with a bit of cheese and 3 pounds of watery pizza sauce. I might come back for a thin crust, but a $22 deep dish will never be worth it.
(2)Cindy M.
My sister and I went there about a month ago...Great time...wonderful wine...exceptional pizza! Ask for Nick the best server ever! He has the perfect combo of 2 pizzas...Loved it...I live in Arizona but, travel to Minnesota often....we can walk to Pezzo from her place...I can't wait to go back!!!
(5)Linda S.
What restaurant won't take an order over the phone for pick up? They said it's dine in only. TRYING to like this place but they are making it very difficult. I don't have more than an hour to wait for dinner and then another 45 minutes for a deep dish pizza but isn't a sale a sale? Come on Pezzo - keep this up and your demise will be like the others who occupied the building before you.
(2)Greg B.
We are very fortunate to have a true Chicago pizzeria in our neighborhood. I've complained for years that the only way to get good pizza when you live in Minnesota is to visit Chicago for deep dish or New York for pizza by the slice. The deep dish that we ordered was right on par with what we've had at Lou Malnotti's, and was better than what you get at Giordano's in the Chicago loop. The coal fired pizza was exceptional, too. It is obvious that the ingredients are fresh. I'd recommend calling ahead, we had to wait 40 minutes on a Friday. If you grew up on Minnesota pizza this will be a new experience for you, but if you love Chicago pizza this place gets the job done right. I don't give out a five star rating very often.
(5)Daniel M.
We were actually the first customers in the door on their opening day today. Our new go-to for pizza in the Twin Cities. Our old go-to place was Blacksheep, but Pezzo surpasses with menu selection and available ingredients. The fennel sausage is far better. I ordered the number 5 pizza with pepperoni, fennel sausage, meatball and prosciutto. Perfection. We also ordered the artichoke dip appetizer which was very good and the bread was outstanding. We eyed the Baked Cipollini and Whipped Cheese (cipollini onions, parmesan, fresh bread). Our server told us his favorite thing on the menu was the Coal Fired House Roasted Turkey sandwich. Very tempting, but I would find it hard to go there and not get a pie. Service was excellent as well. So glad to not have to drive downtown when we want great pizza! Now the best is in our backyard!
(5)Alex C.
More good pizza in White Bear Lake. These guys are different from Donatelli and Roadside but similar to Roma Market. They'll compete with Leonardo's for Chicago style but the waits are just crazy right now. They have the best crust for Chicago style out of any place I've tried. I had their Lincoln Park deep dish (veggie) and was impressed. I also had a thin crust with an egg on it that was amazing. I'm generally not a huge fan of veggie as they tend to be bland but with a few pepper flakes, the deep dish was really good. The crust was amazing and I'll come back to try a meat loaded one. The stuffed mushroom with homemade sausage was awesome too. Great spice mix in the sausage. They don't skimp on toppings but don't overload neither. I wouldn't have minded a bit more of their excellent topping but that may have made me under appreciate their awesome crust. Try the tiramisu! Perfectly sweet and soft without being mushy or having that thawed texture. 2 pizzas, 2 desserts, and one app for five people ran us about 60 bucks. Good atmosphere but a long wait (no reservations allowed), and mediocre service, good food though. They just started allowing for takeout They have a ton of options and remind me a lot of black sheep pizza with their thin crust coal fired pizza. The fact you can get an amazing deep dish will hopefully make this place a long term success.
(4)Jennell E.
Well we came back to try the Chicago Style pizza. Knowing the place fills up, I arrived early and had no trouble getting a table right away on a Saturday night. Having lived in Chicago for 5 years the bar was set pretty high. I'm happy to report that Pezzo is definitely on par with the pizza I remember from Chicago, it was really good! Husband commented it's not as good as his favorite Giordanos, but nothing is in his mind. My only complaint is the sauce is a tad bit watery. The crust was nice and crisp hot out of the oven, but once it cooled off, it was a little soggy due to the extra liquid. Tried another gigantic salad as well - while it was excellent - I wish they would offer half sizes. It's WAY too much for 2 people to eat (especially with a pizza coming) and it doesn't keep well. Seems like a waste of money to buy but only eat half of it. Service was excellent.
(4)Lindsay S.
Love this place. Their salads are gigantic and delicious (feels a little wasteful for 2 people when you can barely finish half, but I was able to eat the rest the next day for lunch after popping it in the freezer for 15 min's before eating as the waitress advised.) The Fields of Blue salad is my favorite. The pizzas are very fresh and the slightly charred wood fire taste makes the crust the perfect amount of crispy. All of the toppings were flavorful and tasted extremely fresh. Their prosciutto and artichokes were my favorite toppings on our build your own pizza. Also, their Sangria was very refreshing- not too sugary/sweet like I feared. Definitely going back soon!

When I first heard about this new Pizza place in White Bear Lake I was kind of excited. Since there is no wine list on their website (Pizza without wine???) I emailed them and requested one. I never heard anything back. I guess they don't want me to eat there... ***UPDATE*** Shortly after I posted this review I was contacted by the restaurant and sent a wine list. In my response to them I promised to stop in and give it a try. So, last night my wife and I had dinner at Pezzo in White Bear Lake. We were promptly seated and our waiter, Phil, came to the table shortly afterward. He was polite and professional. He obviously had experience in this business and was terrific throughout the entire evening. We ordered our drinks and mulled over the extensive menu. We then ordered the 'Classic' salad and the Coal-Fired mozzarella, tomato, and basil pizza. (Essentially, a Margherita pizza). The salad came and we were both very impressed. The lettuces were as fresh as I have ever had and the house-made dressing was light but flavorful and a perfect compliment to the greens. Next the pizza. I do have to say this was one of the best pizzas I have ever had. Again, freshness is the word here as the basil and tomatoes were top quality. The pizza was flavorful with a perfect crust. I was having the Barbera d'Asti which was a nice complement to the pizza. (If I could make one suggestion it would be for more Italian wines on the list. The food is so good that it deserves great complimentary wines. Nebbiolo anyone?) My wife and I dine out quite frequently and consider ourselves 'foodies". We love the great restaurants that have popped up in the Twin Cities in the last dozen years or so. This restaurant ranks very high on our list because of the great food, service, and lively atmosphere. Overall, we were very impressed and Pezzo will be a frequent 'go-to' place for us from now on.
(4)Kapil J.
I have been here a 3-4 times in past month. We love this place. Delicious food. Great Service. Good Staff. Everything is fresh. Highly recommended.
(5)Bill M.
Fantastic appetizers and thin crust pizza. Casual environment. Bar area very large and nice.
(5)Nancy W.
To the naysayers, you are definitely wrong the pizza is delicious! I have been all over Chicago and New York and the pizza definitely competes. The salads are out of this world. I highly recommend the Fields of Blue!
(5)Ryan H.
Bartender was excellent helping my wife choose a beer by pouring samples. Our server you could tell wasn't the most experienced, but she was very friendly and accommodating. Food was amazing. This will be a frequent place for us. My 20 years of restaurant experience recommends this place to everyone.
(5)Deb M.
What a great new place for pizza in WBL. we went with another couple and ordered 2 appetizers and 2 pizzas. All were fabulous. (The chicken wings were the unanimous favorite). The pizzas were done perfectly in their coal-fired oven. The only downside was a rather long wait, but in the end the food was worth it.
(5)Kalena F.
Great food but they have a lot to figure out. Second time eating here and ordered carry out. Took 45 min for a salad, can't figure it out how it can that long to make a salad.
(3)Craig M.
Finally Minnesota has real deep dish Chicago pizza. Best crust, best house made sausage ever. Having grown up near Chicago I have tried most pizza brands from Gino's East, Uno, Lou Malnati's, etc. and Pezzo can honestly stand side by side with any of them. The owner Gary has researched the history of deep dish pizza and created a pie authentic to the original version. Simply an amazing pizza. The beer list is impressive and the wait staff very personable and attentive. What a great place!
(5)Andy M.
Unbelievable Pizza!!! Hands down best pizza in WBL area. Chef/Owner was gracious and very enthusiastic to make our experience memorable. The new decor was quite an upgrade over the last place and the serving staff were friendly and attentive. Beer selection and wine list was good and did I mention the pizza was AWESOME. Definitely making this our families go to pizza joint.
